Manifesto

A tool, not a coach.

Conberate is a craftsman's tool for the working day. It doesn't cheer, nudge, or gamify. It measures, blocks, holds, and closes — then gets out of the way. The work is yours.

The name is the method. Conberate = Concentrate + Deliberate. Concentrate is the inside of a session: focus blocks, a locked screen, distraction sealed out. Deliberate is the outside: the planning ritual, the shutdown ritual, the weekly review. Focus is not willpower — it is the result of deliberate preparation.

Most productivity software sells the opposite. It adds surface, colour, and reward until using the tool feels like progress. But a notification is a notification whether it's a red badge or a burst of confetti. We turned all of it off.

The inspiration

It grew out of one book.

Conberate is a working tool built on the argument of Cal Newport's Deep Work: that focused, undistracted effort is both rare and valuable, and that it can be trained. These are his words — the app is my attempt to live by them.

  • The ability to perform deep work is becoming increasingly rare at exactly the same time it is becoming increasingly valuable in our economy.

  • Clarity about what matters provides clarity about what does not.

  • To produce at your peak level you need to work for extended periods with full concentration on a single task free from distraction.

  • A deep life is a good life.

Eighty percent of a week's value comes from twenty percent of its hours. That value is already in you — Conberate doesn't manufacture it. It finds those hours, protects them from everything that would fragment them, and quietly widens them over time.

So the app is small on purpose. It has exactly two shortcuts, and both exist so a passing thought never costs you the block it interrupted. When we're tempted to add, we usually remove instead. A shorter feature list is a feature.

We do measure the day — a score, a capacity, a heatmap — and we print the arithmetic beside every number. A measure you can't inspect is one you either distrust or learn to game. But we will never award you a streak for it. A streak is a debt. A closed day is a receipt.

Time in Conberate is material — visible blocks with edges and corners, not vague intentions. That's why the brand is blocky too: geometric, heavy, decisive. The logo is a tally of five hours where one carries the weight. A count, not a picture.

Sharp

It does one thing extremely well and refuses the rest.

Quiet

The best tool is forgotten while it's in use.

Honest

The numbers are never flattered. A broken block is a broken block.

We built Conberate because we wanted it and couldn't find it: a tool that respects the craft and trusts the hand that holds it. Opinionated defaults, no lectures. It won't make you focus. It will make focusing the path of least resistance — and then let you get on with the work.

Open the day. Close the day. That's the whole promise.

— THE CONBERATE TEAM

For the hours that count.
